to a global pathology platform.

What began as a shared reading project during the pandemic grew into an interconnected ecosystem of books, whole-slide images, board review, live teaching, questions, flashcards, reporting tools and faculty collaboration.

Ace My Path was built around a simple idea: pathology education should be practical, visual, expert-led and accessible across every stage of a pathologist’s career—from residency and board preparation to fellowship, independent practice and lifelong learning.

The origin story

It started with people learning together.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I organized the Hemepath WHO Book Club—an international reading group built around the WHO hematopathology text. More than 1,000 pathologists joined. We held 60 discussion sessions, worked through the material together, and created shared notes as we learned.

Those notes became the foundation of the first Ace My Path book. The larger idea soon became clear: instead of creating a single resource, we could build a collaborative educational system that connected books, experts, morphology, questions and real diagnostic learning.

That principle still guides Ace My Path today: create the kind of pathology education we would want for ourselves, our trainees and our colleagues.

Hemepath WHO Book Club

More than 1,000 participants joined an international hematopathology reading community. Sixty sessions and collaborative notes ultimately led to Ace My Path’s first publication.

Flow Cytometry Course + Path Helpline

A 20-lecture flow cytometry certificate course delivered more than 25 hours of discussion across 70+ real cases, later complemented by a 215-page flow-plot book. Path Helpline was also created to help students, residents, fellows and practicing pathologists facing educational or professional challenges.

Surgical Pathology Sessions

Practice-based virtual slide discussions brought learners together with subspecialty pathologists across organ systems, expanding Ace My Path beyond reading into interactive morphology-based learning.

AP/Heme Course, Virtual Slide Hub, MCQ modules and mobile app

The AP/Heme course brought together roughly 30 subspecialty experts for nearly 90 lectures. The Virtual Slide Hub grew past 1,000 annotated whole-slide images; MCQ modules expanded structured practice; and the Ace My Path mobile app launched on iOS.

The slide hub evolved from more than 1,000 annotated WSI to a current platform total of 1,500+ whole-slide images.

Ace My Path’s digital footprint now extends across video, dedicated mobile access and the current Thinkific learning environment. The project has generated more than 1 million impressions and more than 100,000 hours of watch time, while mobile access has evolved from the dedicated Ace My Path app to course access through the Thinkific app.

The people behind the platform

Built through collaboration.

One of the most meaningful outcomes of Ace My Path has been the community it created. More than 170 pathologists have contributed to books, lectures, slides, questions, courses and teaching resources.

The contributors span surgical pathology, hematopathology, cytopathology, transfusion medicine, breast, GI, GU, gynecologic pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology, molecular pathology and other subspecialties.

A platform shaped by real needs

Some of the best resources began with someone asking for help.

PATH HELPLINE · SINCE 2021

Support first. Resources followed.

Path Helpline was created to support medical students, pathology residents, fellows and practicing pathologists. The questions people brought to the team often revealed gaps that could be solved through better educational tools.

FROM NEED TO RESOURCE

A course and a handbook born from individual problems.

A practicing pathologist needing to rebuild flow cytometry confidence helped inspire the Flow Cytometry Course. A first-year resident struggling with autopsy reporting helped inspire the Autopsy Reporting Handbook. That responsiveness became part of Ace My Path’s culture.
